About the Role

The Metrology Technician II performs routine calibrations, tests, and inspections either in‑lab or on‑site using accredited standards. The role handles day‑to‑day escalations, priority requests, and maintains traceability of laboratory standards, with work ranging from manual to automated procedures. The technician reports to the principal technician or lab manager. Key duties include calibrating and certifying electronic and dimensional measuring equipment to NIST specifications, performing repairs and modifications, generating calibration reports, and maintaining records required by federal and departmental regulations. The technician also develops automated procedures, uses hand and standard machine tools, troubleshoots equipment in collaboration with design and engineering, and provides guidance to customers and operators. • Calibrate and certify electronic and dimensional measuring equipment to NIST specifications. • Perform repairs, modifications, and preventive maintenance on test equipment. • Generate and maintain calibration reports and documentation per federal and departmental regulations. • Develop automated calibration procedures using basic and complex programming skills. • Use hand tools, standard machine tools, and common laboratory measuring and test equipment. • Troubleshoot equipment issues in collaboration with design and engineering teams. • Provide guidance and training to customers and equipment operators. • Ensure all work complies with health, safety, and environmental (HS&E) requirements. • Maintain traceability of laboratory standards and manage calibration recall systems.

What You Bring

Basic qualifications are a high school diploma with at least two years of relevant experience or an associate degree in engineering technology plus two years, along with formal PMEL, TMDE or calibration school training. U.S. citizenship is required; prior customer‑service experience is a plus. Preferred qualifications include experience with IndySoft, Fluke Met/Team, Met/Track, Met/Cal, and proficiency in Microsoft Excel. • Basic qualification: high school diploma + 2+ years experience or associate degree + 2+ years; formal PMEL/TMDE or calibration school training. • U.S. citizenship required; prior customer‑service experience beneficial. • Preferred tools: IndySoft, Fluke Met/Team, Fluke Met/Track, Met/Cal; proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
