Fire System Specialist I
Inspect, test, and maintain fire alarm and suppression systems, ensuring compliance and reporting.
Job Highlights
About the Role
• Inspect, test, and maintain fire suppression systems (fire alarm, fire extinguisher). • Execute full scope of inspections accurately. • Communicate with customers on-site, checking in/out and addressing questions. • Upload inspection reports to CLSS within 24 hours. • Upload photos to CLSS for failed or service‑required devices. • Send weekly closeout email summarizing inspections and urgent items. • Assist in preparing as‑built drawings and closeout documents. • Provide information/support to inside sales as needed. • Complete timesheets, work orders, expense reports, and required paperwork promptly. • Lift and carry ladders, drawings, computers, material, etc.; up to 50 lb+. • Stand and walk on construction sites for extended periods. • Climb multiple flights of stairs or ladders daily. • Kneel, stoop, and crawl as required.

What You Bring
Level I employees achieve many objectives with timely supervision, possess a solid understanding of at least one system, and hold a low‑level industry certification. Level II staff consistently meet all objectives, mentor Level I personnel, handle multiple special‑system deliverables, and hold mid‑level certifications. Senior employees are highly experienced, have deep system knowledge, high‑level certifications, and provide mentorship and supervision on projects. The position requires significant physical effort, including lifting and carrying equipment, climbing ladders or stairs, and standing or walking on construction sites for extended periods. Workers must be able to operate safely in outdoor settings, mechanical rooms, and environments with live voltage, heavy machinery, moisture, and variable weather conditions, while maintaining accurate color vision and visual acuity. • High school diploma or GED. • 1+ year experience in fire alarm installation, testing, inspection, and service. • Knowledge of NFPA 72 and related fire/life safety codes (beneficial). • Advanced ability to read and interpret blueprints. • 1+ year experience in system startup and programming. • 1+ year experience in panel installation and wiring. • Proficiency with electronic test equipment (voltmeter, ammeter). • Ability to troubleshoot basic electrical/electronic circuitry. • Familiarity with computer operating systems and MS Office. • Strong verbal and written communication skills. • Empathetic problem‑solving and customer service orientation. • Pass background check per customer requirements. • Willingness to travel statewide, including overnight stays. • Availability for nights and occasional weekends. • 3+ years experience testing/inspecting fire alarm and sprinkler systems (incl. kitchen hoods, backflows, clean agent, pre‑action, fire pumps, hydrants). • NICET or comparable fire/life safety certification. • Advanced understanding of NFPA 72 and related codes. • Experience with Building Reports software. • Experience with Notifier fire alarm panels. • Ability to participate in on‑call rotation if qualified. • Maintain satisfactory driving record for company vehicle use. • Work outdoors, in mechanical/equipment rooms, and in extreme weather; exposure to live voltage, moving parts, heavy machinery, moisture, airborne particles, fumes, electrical hazards, vibrations, occasional toxic chemicals, extreme temperatures, and loud noise. • Possess accurate color vision and clear visual acuity.
