About the Role
The Land Planner Co‑op will apply land‑use planning and environmental regulation knowledge to responsibly plan, route and develop transmission and distribution infrastructure. Reporting to the Lands & Environment supervisor, the student will guide projects from early planning through consultation and regulatory approval while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships. • Identify planning and environmental risks during project scoping and support schedule/budget forecasts. • Conduct desktop and field assessments to flag sensitive environmental and land‑use features. • Analyze GIS and spatial data using ESRI/ArcGIS Pro, FWMIS, LAT, AbaData, SPIN II, and GLIMPS. • Coordinate consultations with landowners, Indigenous groups, communities, and government agencies. • Prepare regulatory applications and notification materials for Alberta Environment and Protected Areas and the Alberta Utilities Commission. • Work with consultants and contractors to ensure planning, routing, and environmental studies meet standards, timelines, and budgets. • Maintain SharePoint site management, project tracking, and template standardization.

What You Bring
Candidates must be enrolled in a recognised Canadian university co‑op program and be working toward a bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, land‑use planning, biology, soil sciences, forestry, agriculture, environmental engineering or computer software with SharePoint experience. Required skills include understanding of project scope, construction activities, environmental impacts, relevant municipal‑provincial‑federal legislation, GIS software (ESRI/ArcGIS), spatial data analysis, Microsoft 365, Power BI, and a valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s licence. • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Project, Teams, and Power BI required; valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s licence.

The hourly wage ranges from $24 to $36 depending on prior work‑term experience, and relocation assistance is offered.
