About the Role
The DDT safely operates a WM vehicle, performs pre‑ and post‑trip inspections, and ensures timely waste or recycling collection in accordance with company and federal regulations. They conduct on‑the‑job training and coaching on proper vehicle operation, defensive driving, and safety practices for new hires and drivers reassigned to new routes or facing performance challenges. By observing drivers, providing immediate constructive feedback, and maintaining accurate training records, the DDT tracks progress and reports performance data to the Route Manager and Onboarding Optimization Manager. Additionally, the DDT mentors drivers, reinforces WM safety standards, and represents the company as an ambassador of its values and compliance expectations. • Operate WM vehicle safely, perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections, and ensure timely waste/recycling collection. • Provide on‑the‑job training and coaching on vehicle operation, defensive driving, and safety procedures for new and reassigned drivers. • Observe driver performance, deliver immediate constructive feedback, and track progress in training records. • Report driver performance data to the Route Manager and Onboarding Optimization Manager and recommend additional coaching. • Mentor drivers, reinforce WM safety standards, and act as a company ambassador.

What You Bring
The Designated Driver Trainer (DDT) is a dual‑role position that combines operating a waste‑management vehicle on an assigned route with providing driver‑training support as needed. The role ensures continuity of daily operations while training newly hired drivers to operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with WM, OSHA, DOT, and other regulatory standards. The DDT observes new drivers, focuses on safe driving habits, defensive techniques, and procedural adherence, and offers coaching to drivers who have safety performance issues. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, mentorship, and driver development. Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, a Class A or B commercial driver’s license with an air‑brake endorsement, and at least two years of experience operating a WM vehicle requiring a CDL. Preferred qualifications include up to seven years of recent military driving experience and two years of experience supervising, training, or coaching personnel. The position involves physical tasks such as standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, reaching, handling, sitting, talking, and hearing, performed in both indoor garage or shop settings and outdoor conditions that may include inclement weather, heat, or humidity. This range represents a good‑faith estimate for the position.
