About the Role

The role involves designing Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and associated DC and medium‑voltage switchgear and distribution networks. Responsibilities include performing system studies such as ampacity, load flow, short‑circuit, and loss analysis, as well as preparing, scheduling, and monitoring engineering project progress. The engineer will interact with clients, review manufacturer drawings, ensure code compliance, conduct quality control on deliverables, and guide designers and drafters. Collaboration is essential; the engineer will coordinate with the BESS Manager, Project Manager, and multidisciplinary team members, providing technical support and contributing to the development of standards and processes. Staying abreast of technology trends and supporting continuous improvement are also key aspects of the position. • Design Battery Energy Storage Systems, DC, and medium‑voltage switchgear and distribution networks. • Perform system studies including ampacity, load flow, short‑circuit, and loss analysis. • Prepare, schedule, coordinate, and monitor engineering project design and progress. • Interact with clients to interpret needs and review manufacturer equipment drawings. • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and QA/QC policies. • Conduct quality control checks on drawings and study deliverables. • Direct designers and drafters on drawing requirements. • Coordinate technical support with BESS Manager, Project Manager, and multidisciplinary teams. • Contribute to development of standards, optimizations, and engineering processes. • Stay current with emerging technology trends in renewable energy.

What You Bring

Candidates must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Renewable Engineering, possess 3‑5+ years of experience in BESS or related power systems, and have an Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification with the intent to obtain a PE license. Familiarity with IEEE, NESC, NEC, and NFPA codes, proficiency in MS Office, and experience with system‑study software (e.g., CYME, ETAP) are required, while additional experience with HOMER, PV/Wind systems, or construction is considered a plus. • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Renewable Engineering (Master’s a plus). • 3‑5+ years experience in BESS, renewable energy, distribution, or MV power systems. • Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification with intent to obtain PE license. • Ability to travel up to 25% for project duties. • Knowledge of IEEE, NESC, NEC, and NFPA codes and standards. • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook. • Experience with CYME, ETAP, or similar system‑study software. • Familiarity with HOMER Energy, Toolbase, ESWare, or related modeling tools (optional). • Experience with PV and wind systems, construction, or BESS connections to transmission/distribution (optional).
