About the Role

The growing business is expanding the Service team with a Field Service Technician position. This hands‑on, field‑based role reports to the Field Service Manager and is responsible for start‑up, testing, and commissioning of low‑ and medium‑voltage switchgear and ATS using specialized test equipment. The technician acts as the trusted liaison to customers, ensuring installed systems are properly configured, validated, and operational before handoff. • Develop and manage predictive and preventative maintenance programs for Eau Claire area customers. • Perform site assessments, equipment installation, start‑up, testing, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance of power distribution, control, and automation systems. • Lead complex commissioning, upgrade, and modernization projects, ensuring systems meet specifications before handoff. • Troubleshoot, service, and repair paralleling switchgear, ATS, control systems, and related mechanical equipment on‑site. • Complete field projects on schedule, meeting functional, safety, quality, and performance requirements. • Collaborate with the local Field Service team and TPS headquarters for alignment and operational excellence. • Build and maintain strong customer and vendor relationships, providing professional technical service. • Provide timely follow‑up to customer requests and document field service reports and expenses promptly. • Support the Technical Call Desk with diagnostics and technical guidance. • Follow testing and maintenance procedures for breakers, switchgear, relays, and automation equipment. • Deliver technical training for customers, partners, and employees on new and existing products. • Perform quality‑assurance reviews of engineering drawings for accuracy and constructability.

What You Bring

The role requires strong technical expertise to diagnose and resolve issues with paralleling switchgear, ATS, control systems, and related mechanical equipment while meeting safety, quality, and performance standards. Collaboration with the local service team and Thomson headquarters in Langley, BC supports alignment and operational excellence, and the position involves building lasting customer and vendor relationships. • 5+ years hands‑on experience with preventive/predictive maintenance on power distribution and control equipment (or equivalent education/experience). • Experience installing, maintaining, testing, and repairing circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, and related equipment. • Knowledge of health, safety, and electrical codes such as CSA, NFPA, and UL. • Proficiency with PC tools (email, internet, Microsoft Office, OneNote) and mobile applications for daily tasks. • Ability to read and interpret detailed electrical schematics and mechanical drawings accurately. • Strong customer‑service orientation with a solutions‑focused field approach. • Willingness to travel up to 50% as required by business needs. • NETA or NICET certification (ETT Level II or higher) preferred. • OSHA 30‑Hour, MSHA, and NFPA 70E training preferred. • Experience starting up and commissioning low‑ and medium‑voltage generator paralleling switchgear. • Advanced knowledge of industrial electrical equipment, including switchgear, ATS, circuit breakers, and generators. • Advanced understanding of industrial control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, protective relaying, and relay ladder logic.
