About the Role

We are looking for a motivated and organised Housing Officer to join our Housing Management team. The role involves overseeing temporary accommodation, carrying out property inspections, handling tenancy sign‑ups and check‑outs, supporting benefit applications and performing various administration tasks. • Conduct regular property visits and liaise with tenants, landlords and local authorities to meet contractual obligations. • View properties, sign up tenants, explain tenancy terms, support housing‑benefit applications and demonstrate property equipment. • Manage tenancy check‑outs, produce specifications for re‑let works and ensure properties comply with legal standards. • Collaborate with the Income Collection team to maximise rental income, signpost tenants to welfare services and issue notices for non‑payment. • Identify and report property repairs, making decisions to maintain standards. • Handle tenancy breaches such as noise nuisance or anti‑social behaviour, gather evidence, serve statutory notices and, where required, attend court. • Attend evictions and provide supporting evidence. • Identify tenants needing additional support and coordinate with support providers and statutory agencies. • Record data from visits and maintain accurate records in internal IT systems.

What You Bring

All candidates must have the right to work in the UK, a full UK driving licence, and meet our background, identity and security checks. To drive a Mears vehicle you must be over 21, have held your licence for at least three months and have fewer than nine points. • Experience performing the above duties. • Understanding of basic property faults and remedies. • Ability to write and present clear reports. • Knowledge of the Housing Health & Safety Rating System. • Strong written and verbal communication skills. • Full UK driving licence. • Desirable: experience in housing management or temporary accommodation.

Benefits

The position offers an annual salary of up to £27,957.53 (or £26,313.63) and includes a company car. It is based in St Austell with required travel around Cornwall and is a permanent, full‑time role working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9:00 am–5:30 pm.
