About the Role
The writer manages specification projects, resolves technical and administrative issues, and provides guidance to architectural firms on product choices. Duties include reviewing drawings, drafting specifications, coordinating with consultants, preparing procurement sections, and performing product research to support designers. The role also assists construction administration by reviewing submittals and evaluating substitution requests, while maintaining awareness of evolving building technologies. • Guide design teams on product selection and ensure compliance with codes and standards. • Write, edit, and coordinate construction specifications across all project phases. • Review drawings and project information to align specifications with institutional guidelines and regulations. • Prepare procurement and Division 01 General Requirements sections. • Coordinate consultant technical specifications and enforce current formatting conventions. • Conduct product research and support material selections for designers. • Assist construction administration by reviewing submittals and evaluating substitution requests. • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines independently and collaboratively. • Host or attend client project discussions and follow up on reports.

What You Bring
ECS is seeking an experienced Specification Writer to join the Southwest Facilities team in Dallas, Texas. The role guides design teams on product selection, prepares and edits construction specifications, and ensures compliance with codes and standards throughout all project phases. Ideal candidates are detail‑oriented professionals with a solid background in architecture or construction and a passion for staying current on building technologies. Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, with a bachelor's degree in architecture, construction management, engineering technology, building science or a related field preferred. A minimum of six years of architectural or commercial interiors experience and three years of experience writing AIA MasterFormat specifications are required. Membership in the Construction Specifications Institute is expected, and certifications such as CDT, CCS, LEED AP, or a professional license are considered a plus. • 6 + years architectural or commercial interiors experience; 3 + years writing AIA MasterFormat specifications. • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, construction management, engineering technology, building science or related field (high school diploma/GED minimum). • Membership in Construction Specifications Institute; CDT certification a plus. • Certifications such as CCS, LEED AP, or professional licensure (Architect/Engineer) preferred. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (advanced Word), Bluebeam Revu & Studio, Adobe Acrobat; AutoCAD & Revit a plus. • Strong knowledge of architectural design, engineering coordination, construction methods, and building systems. • Ability to read construction drawings, programs, criteria documents, and specifications.
