About the Role

WSP’s Novi, Michigan office is seeking a Senior Demolition Oversight Technician to provide local technical leadership on decommissioning, regulated material abatement, demolition, and environmental projects. The role involves guiding multiple contractors and discipline professionals, developing strategies and specifications, and ensuring health, safety, environmental, quality, budget, and schedule goals are met. The technician will interpret construction plans and specifications, monitor contractor performance through site inspections, conduct material sampling, and lead junior field staff. They will generate accurate documentation and periodic reports, review contractor testing reports, and make ethical decisions regarding company resources while adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct. • Interpret written and graphic construction plans, specifications, schedules, and related documentation. • Conduct site inspections to verify contractor compliance with project specs, regulatory, health, safety, and environmental requirements. • Perform material sampling as needed and review testing reports for potential risks. • Lead and mentor junior field staff in monitoring and oversight activities. • Produce accurate electronic documentation and field notebooks, and prepare daily, weekly, or monthly progress reports. • Evaluate contractor and consultant reports, identifying risks to project objectives. • Exercise ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct in line with WSP’s Code of Conduct. • Maintain a high safety standard and adhere to WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.

What You Bring

Candidates must hold a high school diploma and have at least nine years of demolition oversight experience, including regulated material abatement and both explosive and non‑explosive demolition methods. Required skills include reading technical plans, knowledge of environmental and construction regulations, strong communication, self‑leadership, physical stamina, and a proven safety record. • Possess at least 9 years of demolition oversight experience with regulated materials such as asbestos or PCB. • Demonstrate ability to read and interpret construction plans, permits, test data, schedules, and budgets. • Familiarity with environmental and construction laws, regulations, and record‑keeping practices. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for technical and non‑technical audiences. • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, prioritize tasks, and manage dynamic work environments. • Physical capability to squat, bend, lift, climb, and navigate difficult terrain. • Willingness to travel for extended periods and work schedules beyond the typical week when project needs demand. • Preferred: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field and Michigan Asbestos Building Inspector licensure. • Preferred: Active membership in local professional practice organizations and deep experience in decommissioning, remediation, or civil construction oversight.
