About the Role

• Perform mechanical analysis and detailed design for AHUs, FCUs, BCUs, including sheet‑metal, enclosures, fan/motor assemblies, coil integration, and airflow pathways. • Develop innovative, custom HVAC solutions that meet customer requirements and optimize manufacturability, serviceability, acoustics, energy efficiency, and product quality. • Create and maintain mechanical engineering standards, CAD models, technical documentation, and design specifications, including configurable BOM logic. • Interpret and apply UL 60335‑2‑40 mechanical safety and A2L refrigerant requirements, coordinating with compliance partners to validate designs. • Define and execute test plans with the Largo Test Lab, lead prototype builds, analyze test data, and drive corrective actions. • Support manufacturing engineering by providing BOMs, routings, assembly sequencing, and DFM/DFA improvements; evaluate and qualify mechanical vendors. • Generate clear drawings, installation details, and mechanical instructions; mentor drafters and ensure consistency with drafting standards.

What You Bring

The position is based onsite in Largo, FL, and candidates must be within commuting distance or willing to relocate. Johnson Controls offers various relocation packages to support the move. • Required: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and 5+ years of product‑development experience in mechanical engineering. • Required knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, airflow fundamentals, sheet‑metal design, and mechanical aspects of UL 1995. • Preferred: HVAC industry experience, lab testing, vibration/structural analysis, acoustics, CFD, and familiarity with DFMEA, DFM/DFA, cost modeling, and value engineering. • Cross‑functional experience collaborating with test labs, compliance, sourcing, and field service teams.

Benefits

The salary range for this role is $90,000 to $120,000, with compensation determined by education, experience, and market data. A competitive benefits package is also provided.
