About the Role

In this role you will provide safety leadership, SHEQ and CDM guidance, develop and adopt management systems and contract strategies, balance project and commercial risk, and lead audits in line with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards. WSP encourages applications from all backgrounds and provides adjustments for disabled candidates. • Lead safety, SHEQ and CDM practices across multidisciplinary rail projects. • Develop and implement management systems and contract strategies for health and safety. • Conduct and oversee ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 audits. • Manage project and commercial risk while meeting client and operational performance goals. • Provide stakeholder and team management throughout design, delivery and procurement phases.

What You Bring

Candidates must have rail‑focus experience combined with broader industry exposure, strong commercial awareness, people‑management skills, and familiarity with corporate systems, business development, recruitment and staff development. Essential qualifications include CMaPS or MIIRSM membership, NEBOSH certification, and knowledge of ISO 45001/OHSAS 18001 auditing, plus a proven record of health‑and‑safety leadership across design and construction phases of rail and infrastructure projects. The role requires in‑depth knowledge of H&S legislation, CDM regulations, Safe‑by‑Design principles and railway safety appropriate to the project stage, as well as effective stakeholder and team management. • Hold NEBOSH certification and CMaPS or MIIRSM membership. • Possess auditing expertise for ISO 45001/OHSAS 18001 standards. • Demonstrate extensive experience in rail and broader infrastructure health‑and‑safety leadership. • Apply knowledge of H&S legislation, CDM regulations and Safe‑by‑Design principles.
