About the Role

Working closely with experienced design engineers, the co‑op participates in every stage of the design process—from concept development to final construction plans—and supports both design‑submittal and construction phases. The position is based in Boston, Massachusetts; relocation and housing are not provided. Responsibilities include preparing design elements in Civil 3D, creating presentation materials, and assisting with public workshops. • Assist in the design and development of highway and roadway projects, including geometric design, alignment layout, and cross‑sections. • Produce and deliver highway design projects through the design submittal phase or construction phase. • Assist task lead/project manager in preparing conceptual, preliminary, and final designs with supporting documentation. • Support development of specifications, cost estimates, and project schedules. • Prepare roadway design elements including alignments, profiles, and corridors in Civil 3D. • Prepare presentation materials for meetings. • Assist in preparing, coordinating, and facilitating public presentations and workshops. • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—environmental, structural engineers, and transportation planners—to integrate design elements seamlessly. • Assist engineering teams with various tasks and duties. • Support research, development, and design of projects. • Prepare engineering drawings and related documents as assigned. • Apply basic engineering, geometric, and algebraic principles. • Follow directions from peers and supervisors. • Perform basic calculations and organize information for drawings.

The Roadway Design co‑op role offers the chance to work on highway and roadway designs ranging from small intersection improvements to major interchanges, bridges, and design‑build projects. Candidates must be currently enrolled in an accredited post‑secondary engineering program and hold a high school diploma or GED. Required skills include a basic understanding of engineering, geometric and algebraic principles, proficiency with Microsoft Office, and the ability to perform calculations, organize information, and communicate effectively within a team. • High school diploma/GED and current enrollment in an accredited engineering program. • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. • Understand basic shop drawing and submittal procedures and requirements. • Demonstrate strong communication, teamwork, analytical, and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail. • Show willingness to learn and take initiative in a dynamic work setting. • Completed two years of post‑secondary civil engineering coursework. • Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
