About the Role
Bridge Tenders at Velociti Services operate bridges, canal locks, and lighthouses to allow marine passage on inland waterways, near shores, and at danger points. They may supervise these operations and include drawbridge operators, lock tenders, and slip bridge operators. Success criteria include following all company procedures and safety protocols, providing safe and courteous openings for marine traffic, ensuring safe passage for vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians, and promptly informing supervisors of incidents, malfunctions, and accidents while safeguarding maintenance personnel. Key duties involve maintaining bridge stations, monitoring waterways for boat traffic, writing maintenance work requisitions, checking that bridges are clear of vehicles and pedestrians before opening, stopping traffic and lowering gates, raising and lowering drawbridges while observing water traffic, and maintaining neat logs and a clean workspace. • Operate and tend bridges, canal locks, and lighthouses to enable safe marine passage. • Supervise bridge operations and coordinate with maintenance personnel. • Monitor waterways via VHF radio and ensure clear passage for vessels. • Verify that bridges are free of vehicles and pedestrians before opening. • Control traffic by stopping automobiles and pedestrians and managing drawbridge gates. • Raise and lower drawbridges while observing water traffic flow. • Write and submit maintenance work requisitions promptly. • Keep accurate, legible logs in accordance with FDOT procedures. • Maintain a clean and orderly workstation. • Apply problem‑solving and troubleshooting abilities to address incidents. • Adhere to safety protocols, including 300 lb ladder and fall‑arrest equipment ratings.

What You Bring
Collaboration requires a solid commitment to the guest experience, prioritizing safety, building respectful relationships, understanding FDOT and U.S. Coast Guard manuals, keeping accurate logs, and communicating effectively on VHF marine radio. Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED, are at least 18 years old, hold a valid driver’s license, and possess strong communication, reasoning, attention‑to‑detail, and customer‑service skills, along with a positive attitude, accountability, and the ability to prioritize and delegate tasks. Physical requirements include meeting weight‑limit safety ratings (e.g., 300 lb ladder rating), lifting up to 50 lb, occasional stooping, bending, climbing, and demonstrating auditory and visual acuity. • Possess a high school diploma or GED and be at least 18 years old. • Hold a valid driver’s license and demonstrate strong verbal communication skills. • Exhibit attention to detail, integrity, and a positive customer‑service attitude. • Meet physical demands such as lifting up to 50 lb and occasional climbing or stooping.
