About the Role

Key responsibilities include selecting and preparing electrodes or consumable wire, setting up welding equipment to the required amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse settings, and striking the arc to generate heat. The Lead Welder manually guides the electrode or welding gun, performs primarily flat‑position welds while gaining proficiency in horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions, and inspects welds for bead size, fusion depth, and specification compliance. Additional tasks involve cleaning joints, positioning and clamping components, tacking assemblies, operating plasma cutters, torches, grinders, jib cranes, and maintaining forklift certification for material handling. The role also promotes a safe, productive, respectful environment, supports continuous improvement, and mentors team members. • Select and prepare electrodes or consumable wire for welding. • Set up welding equipment to specified amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse settings. • Strike arc and generate heat for welding operations. • Manually guide electrode or welding gun, maintaining proper arc length and speed. • Perform welds primarily in flat position and develop proficiency in other positions. • Inspect welds for bead size, fusion depth, and specification compliance. • Clean and prepare weld joints, removing slag, spatter, and excess material. • Position and clamp components using jigs or fixtures. • Tack assemblies and ensure alignment before final welding. • Safely operate plasma cutters, torches, grinders, and jib cranes. • Maintain forklift certification and operate forklifts for material handling. • Promote a safe, productive, and respectful work environment. • Support continuous improvement initiatives and mentor welding team members.

What You Bring

Position Summary: We are seeking a skilled and motivated Lead Welder to join our weld department. This hands‑on role involves welding structural shapes, plate, and light‑gauge components in the shop and on the shop floor, and providing assistance to ancillary weld tasks. The Lead Welder will ensure safety, quality, and productivity while training new employees and fostering a positive work environment. Qualifications include proven experience in welding, preferably in structural or modular fabrication, and proficiency with MIG, flux‑core, and hardwire techniques. Candidates must be able to read welding symbols, blueprints, and technical drawings, and be familiar with equipment setup and maintenance. Forklift certification or willingness to obtain it, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to safety are required. Leadership experience or an aptitude for mentoring is a plus. Education requirements are a one‑year certificate from a college or technical school, six months of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. • Proven experience in structural or modular fabrication welding. • Proficiency with MIG, flux‑core, and hardwire welding techniques. • Ability to read and interpret welding symbols, blueprints, and technical drawings. • Familiarity with welding equipment setup and maintenance. • Forklift certification or willingness to obtain it. • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety. • Leadership experience or aptitude for mentoring others.
