About the Role

Interns will support a variety of engineering tasks, learn basic mechanical engineering principles, and assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis. They will help prepare final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates, as well as collect and maintain project documentation. Training on assigned tasks, ethical decision‑making, and adherence to WSP’s Code of Conduct are required, and occasional travel may be needed; no relocation or housing assistance is provided. • Support engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills. • Conduct project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations/analysis. • Prepare final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates. • Collect and maintain project documentation.

The Earth & Environment Team is seeking a full‑time Mechanical Engineering Intern for Summer 2026 at the Tucson, AZ office, targeting individuals currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program. Candidates must be actively enrolled in an accredited Mechanical Engineering or related undergraduate program with an expected graduation date of August 2026 or later, be at least 18 years old, and possess a demonstrated interest in the field. Required skills include strong interpersonal and communication abilities, the capacity to follow direction from mentors and managers, basic proficiency in technical writing, office software, spreadsheets, and a proven commitment to workplace safety and WSP’s health, safety, and conduct policies. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. • Complete training on assigned tasks and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and ethical decision‑making. • Actively enrolled in an accredited Mechanical Engineering (or related) undergraduate program, graduating August 2026 or later; 18+ years old. • Effective interpersonal and communication skills for technical and non‑technical audiences. • Ability to take direction from leadership, mentors, and managers. • Basic proficiency in technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, and related tools. • Proven commitment to workplace safety and compliance with WSP health, safety, and conduct policies. • Authorization to work in the United States. • Preferred: Enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering master’s or PhD program graduating August 2026 or later. • Preferred: Prior internship experience and campus leadership involvement.

Benefits

The position is part of the WSP Summer Internship Program, a 12‑week engagement slated to begin on May 18 2026 with flexible start dates. Interns will be hired as temporary full‑time staff for the summer term. Preferred candidates are those enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering master’s or PhD program graduating August 2026 or later, and who have prior internship experience and leadership involvement on campus. Compensation ranges from $22.16 to $28.03 per hour, with final pay reflecting education, experience, skills, internal equity, and geographic location. • Compensation: $22.16–$28.03 per hour, subject to experience, skills, internal equity, and location; no relocation or housing assistance.
