About the Role
This is a 100% travel position covering locations across the United States, including Texas, Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, and the Midwest. The role demands frequent on‑site presence and interaction with owners, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders. The senior project manager is responsible for the financial health of projects, EPC contract negotiations, vendor procurement, budgeting, billing, subcontract management, and team supervision. Additional duties include serving as the primary point of contact for owners, handling change orders, ensuring safety, identifying risks, and maintaining stakeholder relationships throughout the lifecycle of utility‑scale battery energy storage projects. • Manage overall project financial health, including budgets, forecasts, invoices, and owner billings. • Lead EPC contract negotiations, preparing technical exhibits, scopes of work, and schedules. • Direct vendor procurement and bid/award processes: RFP creation, solicitation, risk analysis, and contract negotiations. • Develop and maintain project and equipment financial projections; allocate estimates and cost codes in the financial system. • Oversee subcontracts, supplier selection, and trade partner management; handle contract buyouts. • Supervise Assistant Project Managers and Project Engineers, assign work, approve timecards, and mentor career development. • Serve as primary contact for owners and on‑site representatives, resolve site concerns, and manage change orders. • Lead full‑lifecycle execution of utility‑scale battery energy storage projects from site development to commissioning. • Champion safety across the workforce, enforcing Mortenson’s Zero Injury culture. • Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks; maintain risk registers and contingency plans. • Manage schedule performance, ensuring timely procurement and milestone delivery. • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships with clients, utilities, consultants, and internal teams. • Ensure compliance with construction law, company policies, and safety standards.

The role provides overall leadership for one large project or multiple projects, overseeing quality, timeliness, safety, and mentoring the project team while developing strong customer relationships. The ideal candidate must be flexible, proactive, professional, and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail. Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management and have at least eight years of construction management experience. Required skills include detail orientation, basic knowledge of construction law, proficiency with Microsoft Office and project web applications, a professional attitude, strong customer service, and a valid driver’s license.
