About the Role

The Environmental Specialist ensures environmental compliance and risk management during construction of a combined‑cycle natural‑gas power plant. The role guarantees that all construction activities meet federal, state, and local environmental regulations, project permits, and company standards, and works closely with contractors, site leadership, engineering teams, and regulators to protect environmental resources throughout the construction lifecycle. • Support implementation and compliance with construction permits (air, stormwater, wetlands, land use). • Ensure contractors adhere to permit conditions, environmental plans, and regulatory requirements. • Conduct routine inspections of construction sites, laydown yards, fuel/chemical storage, and erosion control systems. • Monitor and manage erosion, sediment, dust, noise, and air quality controls during construction. • Identify non‑compliance issues and coordinate timely corrective actions with contractors. • Perform environmental sampling and monitoring of stormwater, groundwater, soil, and waste streams. • Maintain inspection logs, compliance records, and documentation for audits and regulatory review. • Track environmental KPIs and prepare weekly/monthly status reports for project leadership. • Manage hazardous and non‑hazardous waste handling, labeling, transportation, and disposal. • Oversee fuel handling, spill prevention, chemical storage, and SPCC plan implementation. • Lead spill response activities, including coordination, cleanup oversight, and incident reporting. • Conduct root‑cause analysis of environmental incidents and recommend preventive measures. • Provide environmental orientation and task‑specific training for construction crews and subcontractors. • Serve as on‑site environmental point of contact for contractors and regulatory inspectors. • Monitor compliance with protected species, habitat protection, vegetation management, and cultural/archaeological discovery procedures.

What You Bring

A bachelor’s degree in an environmental or related field and a minimum of eight years’ experience in environmental project management, personnel management, and business operations is required. Candidates must demonstrate expertise in environmental permitting and regulations within the energy sector and have proven experience leading environmental teams while aligning objectives with broader business goals.
