About the Role
The Assistant Project Manager will partner with the Project Manager from bid preparation through final client acceptance, and will also lead, coach, and mentor project team members. The position is open to candidates based anywhere in the United States, with a home‑base location determined by the employee. • Perform cost control and financial management • Work with Preconstruction on project estimate and schedule • Coordinate scopes of work • Review and compile pay applications, change requests, and other project financial documentation • Partner with the Project Manager or Construction Executive • Draft client proposals • Provide direction to the project team for safe and timely project completion • Act as liaison for project engineers, mentor, and coach others • Provide job assignments and manage career development • Direct responsibilities and guide Field Engineer(s) and Project Engineer(s) • Manage subcontractors and suppliers for the project • Oversee budget and make recommendations for subcontractors and trade partners • Lead project buyout with subcontractors and trade partners • Facilitate and lead meetings between subcontractors for project coordination • Perform on-site Project Manager duties on small‑scope projects • Implement a quality plan that ensures customer‑specified performance criteria in design and construction

What You Bring
Mortenson is seeking an experienced Assistant Construction Project Manager for its Civil Group, which handles excavation work for renewable energy and site development teams. The role requires interaction with staff at all levels in a dynamic environment, demanding flexibility, resourcefulness, proactive problem‑solving, professionalism, and confidentiality. Strong written and verbal communication skills and keen attention to detail are essential. Travel is a core component of the role; candidates must be willing to travel nationwide with regular monthly rotations back home, resulting in 100% travel commitment. Visa sponsorship is not offered for this position, and applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship. Postings typically remain open for a minimum of five days, averaging 44 days. • Bachelor's degree in Construction, Civil, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience • Minimum five years of excavation experience • Experience with large self‑perform excavation projects preferred • Supervisory or leadership experience preferred • Experience in commercial construction, renewable energy project development, EPC contracting, or emerging technologies preferred • Site development—data centers experience preferred • Proven ability to assist with responsibilities for large excavation projects • Renewable or site development experience preferred • Detail‑oriented with ability to organize and manage multiple project tasks • Basic understanding of construction law and standard business practices • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office, project, and relevant web applications • Current driver’s license

Benefits
The base salary range for this role is $102,000 – $137,700, with higher ranges for locations such as Denver, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, and Washington, D.C.
