About the Role
The Utility Coordination and Design Business Class Director serves as the technical leader for the utility coordination and design practice, overseeing product and service delivery to position HDR as a preferred provider. The role is accountable for quality assurance, resource availability, staff development and successful project delivery. Key duties include monthly coordination calls with business‑class leadership to review upcoming projects, workload and staff utilization, and to identify hiring or work‑share needs. The director participates in Project Approach and Resource reviews, conducts project audits, and acts as the focal point for transportation‑business collaborations across HDR. They also identify technical leaders, support hiring, promote staff interaction, manage work‑share assignments, and provide direct project support, while contributing to marketing activities such as proposal development and sub‑consultant selection. Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering or a closely related field, professional registration, and at least ten years of relevant experience. Candidates must have a proven record of developing and managing diverse teams, collaborating with directors, operations and marketing managers, and upholding HDR’s quality standards and employee‑owned culture. The position is location‑agnostic, though a site with a strong HDR presence is preferred, and travel is estimated at 15‑25% with monthly variation.
