About the Role

The Technical Director role will support the Development team, which provides transport planning, civil infrastructure and urban design for development and master‑planning projects. Based in the North East with national reach, the position will drive client‑facing activities, business growth, market strategy and technical leadership, and help diversify the team in staff numbers and revenue. • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, leveraging network to win work and increase market share. • Liaise with Regional Director and local office lead to set growth targets and plans. • Build trusted relationships with public and private sector clients and key stakeholders, including local planning authorities. • Provide technical advice to clients throughout the planning and design process. • Coordinate with Development team colleagues, sharing market intelligence, best practice and innovation. • Lead and support bids, reviewing and authorising submissions and adding commercial and technical value. • Act as Project Director for major projects and strategically important commissions. • Support health, safety, environment and quality compliance for the team.

What You Bring

The successful candidate must have a proven record of winning and delivering new work within a multi‑disciplinary consultancy, across public and private sectors, and experience managing large, multi‑disciplinary tender proposals. They will be responsible for spotting opportunities with existing and new clients, sector leads and colleagues across WSP. • Demonstrate behaviours and attitudes aligned with WSP core values. • Degree in transport planning or civil engineering. • Chartered status. • Proven commercial and strategic capability with a record of identifying and delivering new business. • Strong interpersonal, leadership and management experience. • Demonstrated track record of winning work. • Broad relevant project experience.
