About the Role

The Principal Solution Architect drives the technical vision for a business‑unit IT department, aligning solutions with corporate strategy and the enterprise technology roadmap. The role defines and documents solution architectures, collaborates with IT and business teams to translate goals into design, remains engaged through development and deployment, and provides hands‑on guidance on application, data, and integration decisions. Additionally, the architect ensures governance, mitigates risks, and contributes to operational effectiveness and future roadmap planning. • Translate business needs into IT solutions and develop portfolio‑specific strategies and roadmaps, ensuring alignment with the Enterprise Architecture framework. • Design and document solution architectures that meet project goals, adhere to Constellation’s technology roadmap, standards, and best practices, and record them in the architecture repository. • Collaborate with IT and business project teams to define success criteria, guide design, and maintain continuous alignment throughout design, development, and deployment phases. • Work with enterprise architects, developers, and project managers to identify risks, apply mitigations, and update architectural deliverables as needed. • Participate hands‑on in application, data, and integration architecture decisions, supporting implementation of new or upgraded systems. • Ensure operational effectiveness of solutions and contribute to future roadmap discussions with internal and external stakeholders. • Review cost‑optimized designs and act as a key member of project teams, providing leadership and guidance to application design and development. • Communicate solution concepts to all management levels and build strong stakeholder relationships. • Own and champion governance mechanisms, guaranteeing architecture deliverables meet or exceed governance standards. • Provide coaching, mentorship, and career development support to IT personnel while promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, teamwork, and a learning culture.

What You Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field plus 8‑10 years of IT Architecture experience (or equivalent education/experience). • 4‑6 years of deep software development lifecycle (SDLC) experience with custom‑developed software or commercial products. • Experience with one or more architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, Zachman, Feld Group). • Strong deployment architecture design and implementation background. • Full change‑management experience. • Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple competing demands, and travel domestically. • Capability to turn high‑level requirements into software architecture. • Master’s degree (preferred). • Professional IT Architecture education or certification (preferred). • Experience with The Open Group’s ArchiMate modeling language (preferred).
