About the Role
The Underground Groundman is an entry‑level position focused on the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical underground distribution systems. Work is performed at various locations and may require out‑of‑state travel based on customer demand. In this role you will safely execute new construction, maintenance and repair tasks on both energized and de‑energized underground lines, set pad‑mount transformers, and follow strict safety procedures around high‑voltage equipment. You will also maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment, perform rigging, hand‑line work, knot‑tying, and basic bucket‑rescue operations, and be capable of working at heights, in confined spaces, trenches and manholes. • Perform new construction, maintenance, and repair of underground distribution systems (energized and de‑energized). • Set and install pad‑mount transformers. • Follow strict safety protocols around high‑voltage equipment. • Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment in good working order. • Execute rigging, hand‑line work, and knot‑tying tasks. • Identify primary, secondary, and induced voltages on circuits. • Assist with single‑phase transformer hookup. • Conduct basic bucket‑rescue and escape operations. • Set up and ground equipment; work at heights and in confined spaces. • Observe minimum approach distances and adhere to excavation/shoring requirements. • Check transformer voltage; install and remove services. • Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment; wear appropriate PPE. • Climb various structures (wood, steel, etc.) using proper tools. • Work in underground trenches, manholes, and use Kellum grips. • Operate outdoors in all weather conditions and handle live high‑voltage lines.

What You Bring
The position requires a basic understanding of voltage identification, induced voltage, transformer hookup, equipment grounding, minimum approach distances, excavation and shoring requirements, and the proper use and inspection of PPE and rubber goods. You must be able to climb various structures, use Kellum grips, and work outdoors in all weather conditions while handling live high‑voltage lines. No prior experience is required; candidates must be able to read and communicate effectively in English, obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days (preferred), travel on short notice, lift more than 50 lb, and be willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed. The job involves regular talking, standing, walking, manual handling and exposure to fumes, noise, vibration and extreme outdoor conditions. Employees must follow company safety rules, demonstrate self‑motivation, teamwork, and customer focus, and adhere to equal‑opportunity policies. • Read and communicate effectively in English; obtain a CDL permit within 60 days. • Travel long distances on short notice and lift over 50 lb. • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and variable schedules.
