About the Role
The position’s responsibilities include selecting welding equipment, planning layouts, and applying knowledge of geometry, metal properties, and weld shrinkage. The welder will layout, cut, assemble, and fit metal components in various body positions, secure parts with bolts, clamps, or tack‑welds, and perform welding using arc, gas‑shielded, submerged, or gas‑arc processes according to the appropriate procedure. Additional duties involve reading and interpreting blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical manuals, identifying required equipment and safety risks, and ensuring compliance with all safety and PPE requirements. The role does not have direct reports but may occasionally oversee helpers or laborers, holding positional authority over them. Reliable transportation and the ability to assist with non‑welding tasks are expected. • Complete a standard pipe weld test before starting work. • Perform GTAW/SMAW welding on carbon steel and stainless steel in a maintenance setting. • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical manuals. • Select equipment, plan layouts, and execute cuts, assemblies, and fits in various positions. • Secure components using bolts, clamps, or tack‑welds before final welding. • Apply appropriate welding procedures (arc, gas‑shielded, submerged, gas‑arc). • Identify equipment needs, safety risks, and required PPE for each job. • Possibly oversee helpers or laborers, exercising positional authority as needed.

What You Bring
The role requires completion of a standard pipe test and involves GTAW/SMAW welding on carbon and stainless steel in a maintenance environment; no per‑diem compensation is provided. Candidates must have at least four years of industrial welding experience, be able to perform stick and MIG welding on various equipment, and successfully pass multiple positional weld tests (HBZ‑130 2G, 3G, 4G) without a backing strip. Proficiency with rods such as 6010 and 7018 and ability to work on materials including carbon steel, flux‑core, stainless, aluminum, and chrome is required. Physical demands include extensive standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 50 lb, working at heights, and operating in all weather conditions while wearing PPE such as hard hat, safety glasses, ear plugs, respirator, hi‑vis vest, gloves, and steel‑toed boots. Preferred candidates are current or former Zachry employees, hold Zachry ROF certification, or have prior experience with Zachry Industrial, Inc. • Pass HBZ‑130 2G, 3G, and 4G welding tests without a backing strip. • Minimum 4 years of industrial welding experience with stick and MIG processes. • Proficient with welding rods such as 6010 and 7018 on multiple metal types. • Lift and carry up to 50 lb, work at heights, and operate in all weather conditions. • Preferably a current or former Zachry employee with Zachry ROF certification.
