About the Role
Within HDR’s Transportation Business Group, teams create connections between people, projects, and services that move communities forward. The Strategic Communications Coordinator will join the global Strategic Communications practice in HDR’s Charleston, South Carolina office. Reporting to Communications Managers and Project Managers, the coordinator will support client projects by developing and managing communication and engagement activities across a variety of infrastructure initiatives. Key duties include writing copy for talking points, media releases, social media, and video scripts; coordinating public meetings, workshops, and stakeholder sessions; handling meeting logistics, vendor relationships, and work‑back schedules; and producing outreach materials such as newsletters, websites, handouts, and press releases. The role also involves collaborating with social‑media, web, graphics, and video specialists, managing stakeholder lists and comment databases, and documenting outreach activities for reporting. • Write communication copy such as talking points, media releases, social media posts, and video scripts. • Coordinate public meetings, hearings, open houses, workshops, and stakeholder engagements. • Organize meeting logistics, vendor management, and develop task workback schedules. • Produce and distribute outreach materials including newsletters, websites, handouts, advertisements, and press releases. • Collaborate with social media, web, graphics, and video specialists to create outreach tools. • Identify stakeholders, manage distribution lists, and maintain project-specific comment databases. • Document outreach activities and generate activity tracking reports. • Participate in client meetings and build productive working relationships with the team.

What You Bring
Applicants must have at least three years of relevant industry experience, strong written and verbal communication, excellent organizational abilities, and the capacity to juggle multiple assignments while meeting deadlines. A self‑starter attitude, proficiency with social media platforms and Microsoft Office, and a commitment to HDR’s employee‑owned culture are essential. Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in marketing or communications, experience in government or infrastructure sectors (transportation, water, power), willingness to travel up to 15%, and the ability to drive to project sites. • Travel up to 15% of the time and drive to project locations as required. • Minimum three years of relevant industry experience with strong written and verbal communication skills. • Demonstrated strong organizational abilities and capacity to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines. • Proficiency in social networking/social media programs and Microsoft Office applications. • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field (preferred). • Experience in government or infrastructure sectors such as transportation, water, or power (preferred). • Ability to think creatively, work independently or with remote teams, and represent HDR professionally.
