About the Role
The Design Lead is accountable for leading the Project Technical Team to develop and deliver the most appropriate design for construction on budget and in line with the overall program. Working closely with the Project Manager and Technical Leads, the role ensures efficiency and quality of all design deliverables, coordinating multidisciplinary inputs from engineering, procurement, construction and maintenance to achieve an integrated solution. The position is based in Stantec’s Sydney Olympic Park offices. • Deliver outputs on time, within budget, and obtain client endorsement. • Ensure technical outputs meet scope, safety, and quality standards, verified by independent review. • Manage scope changes using established processes. • Deliver design to quality standards using diverse teams. • Lead multi‑disciplinary teams within a matrixed professional services environment. • Exercise independent judgment to resolve complex issues. • Serve as internal subject‑matter expert for engineering design. • Collaborate inclusively with client and stakeholders throughout solution development and handovers. • Plan technical delivery methodology, resources, and track progress. • Implement efficient delivery, review processes, and incorporate safety, innovation, sustainability; minimize rework and capture IP. • Provide regular monitoring and reporting on schedule, budget, quality, resources, and scope, recommending corrective actions. • Coordinate quality reviews, schedules, and modifications with design quality and discipline reviewers. • Connecting employees across Stantec through the Developing Professionals Group.

What You Bring
Candidates are invited to submit a current CV outlining relevant experience via the apply link. • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering with 8+ years experience in an engineering consultancy. • Leadership abilities including managing subcontractors and multidisciplinary teams. • Knowledge of water and wastewater assets and the delivery environment. • Highly developed problem‑solving and negotiation skills to resolve disputes. • Strong understanding of D&C or alternative delivery projects. • Solid report writing with the ability to tell a compelling story. • Proficient in Project Management Tools, MS Project, and Power BI. • Previous experience working with Sydney Water is desirable. • Highly developed interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with internal and external clients. • Highly developed consulting skills to liaise with clients and stakeholders for successful project outcomes. • Professional Registration and Memberships.
