About the Role

• Select pipe type and size and related materials per specifications. • Plan equipment layout, assembly, and welding using knowledge of geometry, metal properties, shrinkage, and techniques. • Use Gas‑Metal Arc, Flux‑Cored Arc, Gas‑Tungsten Arc, Submerged Arc, or Shielded Metal Arc welding processes as needed. • Layout, position, align, and fit components in various orientations. • Connect welding unit cables to achieve required amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse. • Obtain and install the specified electrode or load consumable wire into the welding gun. • Start the power supply to generate electric current. • Strike an arc to melt and deposit metal onto the workpiece and join edges. • Manually guide the electrode or gun along the weld line, controlling arc length, speed, and movement to achieve proper fusion and bead. • Apply filler rod, clean or degrease joints, repair cracks, remove excess weld material, preheat workpieces, and cut metal plates or shapes as required. • Inspect welds for bead size and compliance with specifications. • Load, transport, and unload materials, tools, equipment, and supplies. • Assist in lifting, positioning, and securing materials and workpieces during installation. • Perform minor maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment. • Use respiratory protection when required. • Pass employer performance or certification tests and perform only certified procedures. • Observe and comply with all safety and project rules. • Make decisions based on measurable criteria. • Apply basic mathematics to solve problems. • Plan work and select proper tools. • Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings. • Compare and identify differences in size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects.

  • material handling
  • safety compliance

What You Bring

The role requires certification on multi‑process pipe welding and proficiency in SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW techniques, with possible x‑ray quality requirements. The employee will layout, align, and weld fabricated, cast, and forged components to build structural forms such as machinery frames, tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, buildings, and piping, following blueprints and metallurgical specifications. Applicants typically need a high school diploma or equivalent and several years of relevant experience. They must possess knowledge of common concepts, practices, and procedures in the field, rely on established instructions, and work under immediate supervision without exercising independent judgment. The position reports to a supervisor or manager. Physical demands include standing (50 %), walking (20 %), and sitting (30 %) with the ability to lift and carry up to 35 lb. Frequent activities involve climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, and fingering, with constant exposure to certain tasks. • Bolt, clamp, and weld metal components such as piping systems, plates, tubes, and structural shapes; weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions and tack weld assemblies.
