As Area Support Manager you will lead a team of Managing Engineers and Engineers, acting as part of the escalation process for operational and client matters across a defined region. Your strong mechanical and electrical engineering background will underpin the delivery of high‑quality maintenance and repair services for automatic and industrial door systems. You will build trusted relationships with clients and ensure service delivery meets or exceeds contractual requirements, maintaining full compliance with statutory regulations and internal safety standards. Through a dedicated departmental resource team you will oversee area performance, ensuring engineers are deployed effectively, meet response times and deliver work to high technical and safety standards in line with SLAs. You will monitor performance metrics, identify trends and implement corrective actions as needed. Leading a large, multi‑skilled workforce, you will support team development through coaching, mentoring and use of our National Training centre, demonstrating a proven track record in performance management, conflict resolution and building technical and leadership capability. • Lead and support a regional team of Managing Engineers and Engineers. • Oversee high‑quality maintenance and repair of automatic and industrial door systems, ensuring safety and statutory compliance. • Manage area performance against SLAs, monitor metrics and implement corrective actions. • Coach, mentor and develop multi‑skilled staff, handling performance management and conflict resolution. • Handle administrative reporting, budgeting and key account management with strong commercial awareness. • Provide technical leadership in planned and reactive maintenance, fault diagnosis and regulatory compliance.

What You Bring

The successful candidate will be based in or near London and will enjoy a flexible working approach that combines site attendance, client engagement and home‑based work. The role also involves administrative and reporting responsibilities that require strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with flexibility to work from home, visit sites and attend client or operational meetings. Strong commercial awareness is essential; you will help manage key accounts, contribute to budget control and use your technical expertise to inform commercial decisions, holding open and constructive conversations with internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate comes from a fast‑paced automatic or industrial door environment and has extensive senior technical or operational experience, including hands‑on maintenance roles that provide a solid understanding of practical and compliance requirements. You possess a strong grasp of planned and reactive maintenance, fault diagnosis, safety standards and regulatory compliance, enabling you to provide credible technical leadership to engineering teams and clients. Strong IT literacy is essential; you are comfortable using Microsoft Office, maintenance management systems and web‑based platforms to manage data, reporting and communication in a digital environment. We seek a confident, resilient, highly organised individual who remains calm under pressure, manages competing priorities effectively and has strong interpersonal skills to influence stakeholders and lead teams through change. Essential qualifications include strong mechanical and electrical technical knowledge, proven commercial awareness with cost control and budget management, excellent account and relationship management skills, and demonstrable experience leading and developing large, multi‑skilled teams. Retail sector experience in high‑footfall or multi‑site environments is advantageous. • Demonstrate strong mechanical and electrical engineering expertise and hands‑on maintenance experience. • Proven ability to lead large teams and develop technical and leadership capabilities. • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office, maintenance management systems and digital communication tools. • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills to build trusted client relationships.
