About the Role

The Principal Geotechnical Engineer will serve as the final technical reviewer for geotechnical reports, oversee the development of engineering reports and design packages as the Engineer of Record, and provide technical expertise across the branch focusing on DOT and AASHTO specifications. They will mentor junior staff, lead complex designs for slope stability and foundations, direct field exploration activities, drive business development through client meetings, and collaborate with the Associate Principal review committee to identify future leadership candidates. • Final technical reviewer for geotechnical reports, ensuring 100% design accuracy. • Oversee creation of geotechnical engineering reports and design packages as Engineer of Record. • Provide technical expertise on DOT and AASHTO specifications to regional staff. • Mentor junior and mid‑level engineers, technicians, designers, and project managers. • Lead complex designs for slope stability, foundations, retaining structures, and settlement evaluations. • Direct project managers on field exploration activities such as drilling, test pits, and inspections. • Drive business development by attending client meetings and identifying growth opportunities. • Collaborate with the Associate Principal review committee to mentor future leaders. • Managed three or more large‑scale transportation projects simultaneously.

What You Bring

Candidates must have 12 or more years of geotechnical and transportation engineering experience, a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related engineering field, and a Professional Engineer (PE) license (Professional Geologist may be acceptable depending on state). Required expertise includes the DOT Geotechnical Design Manual, AASHTO LRFD specifications, and proficiency with MicroStation, OpenRoads, or similar design software. Preferred qualifications include experience with specialized geotechnical software, managing multiple large‑scale transportation projects, and active involvement in professional organizations such as ASCE or ACEC. • 12+ years of geotechnical and transportation engineering experience. • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Civil, Geotechnical, Geological Engineering or related field. • Professional Engineer (PE) license (Professional Geologist may be acceptable in some states). • Expertise in DOT Geotechnical Design Manual and AASHTO LRFD specifications. • Proficiency in MicroStation, OpenRoads or similar infrastructure design software. • Proven senior technical reviewer experience. • Valid driver’s license for site and client travel. • Experience with gINT, LPile, APile, MSEW, FB‑Pier, and GRLWEAP software. • Active participation in industry organizations such as ASCE, ACEC, or geotechnical institutes.
