About the Role

The Opportunity: In this senior role you will use your modelling, simulation, and rail systems expertise to shape the future of complex transit networks. You will enhance operational performance and inform large‑scale infrastructure design while collaborating with specialists across Canada and beyond to deliver data‑driven solutions that keep people moving safely and efficiently. Your Impact: You will lead end‑to‑end modelling and simulation assignments covering rail operations, traction power, tunnel ventilation, pedestrian movement, and traffic scenarios. By applying advanced modelling methods you will evaluate network performance, validate system requirements, and optimise service planning. You will develop rail network and alignment concepts grounded in operational feasibility and system integration, mentor junior modellers, and drive continuous improvement through process design, automation tools, and visualisation of simulation outputs. You will also support proposals, multi‑project delivery, and maintain technical excellence and quality assurance while building strong internal and external relationships that expand client trust and position WSP as a leader in modelling and simulation. • Lead end‑to‑end rail modelling and simulation projects across operations, traction power, ventilation, pedestrian and traffic scenarios. • Apply advanced modelling to evaluate network performance, validate requirements, and optimise service planning. • Develop feasible rail network and alignment concepts with integrated system design. • Mentor junior modellers and strengthen team technical capability. • Create automation tools and visualisation methods to improve modelling processes. • Support proposals and multi‑project delivery while ensuring technical excellence and quality assurance. • Build internal and external relationships to expand client trust and position WSP as a leader.

What You Bring

The Skills That Set You Apart: An engineering degree is highly preferred, together with 10+ years of experience in rail modelling, operational analysis, and systems engineering. Deep hands‑on expertise with OpenTrack, RailSys, RTC or equivalent platforms, and OpenPowerNet for traction power studies is essential. A strong understanding of rail operations, signalling principles, block design, and track layout fundamentals, coupled with advanced data handling skills in Python or VBA, is required. Experience in timetable planning, service modelling, rolling stock and crew diagramming, and resource optimisation across LRT, metro, commuter rail, tram, and mixed‑traffic environments is also valuable, as is familiarity with ETCS, CBTC and macroscopic modelling tools. • Hold an engineering degree (preferred) and 10+ years of rail modelling, operational analysis, and systems engineering experience. • Expertise with OpenTrack, RailSys, RTC or equivalent platforms; experience using OpenPowerNet for traction power studies. • Strong knowledge of rail operations, signalling principles, block design, and track layout fundamentals. • Advanced data handling skills; proficient in Python or VBA for large‑dataset manipulation and workflow automation. • Experience in timetable planning, service modelling, rolling stock and crew diagramming, and resource optimisation. • Background across LRT, metro, commuter rail, tram, and mixed‑traffic environments. • Familiarity with ETCS, CBTC technologies; exposure to macroscopic tools such as Viriato, RailPlan, Attune and platforms like MATLAB/Simulink or LabVIEW is a plus.
