About the Role

The Designated Driver Trainer (DDT) is a dual‑role position that operates a WM vehicle on an assigned route while also stepping in as a trainer to support new driver onboarding and ongoing development. This role ensures continuity in daily operations and plays a critical part in teaching newly hired drivers to operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and regulatory standards. The DDT observes and evaluates driver performance, provides coaching, and mentors drivers with safety performance issues, balancing operational duties with hands‑on training. • Operate assigned WM vehicle safely, performing pre‑ and post‑trip inspections and complying with WM Safety, OSHA, DOT, and all applicable laws. • Provide on‑the‑job training and coaching on vehicle operation, defensive driving, WM Way processes, and OBU tablet usage for new and reassigned drivers. • Observe driver performance, give immediate constructive feedback, and assess safe maneuvering of WM vehicles. • Document driver progress, strengths, areas for improvement, completed training tasks, and recommend additional coaching. • Report driver performance data to the Route Manager and Onboarding Optimization Manager, highlighting strengths and recommending further training. • Mentor drivers during role transition, fostering skill development and confidence. • Serve as a WM ambassador by promoting company values, safety standards, and compliance expectations.

The expected base pay ranges from $26 to $35 per hour for this office/on‑site or hybrid role, subject to various factors. • Required: High School diploma or GED, Class A or B CDL with air‑brake endorsement, and at least 2 years operating a WM vehicle. • Preferred: 2 years recent military driving experience and 2 years supervising, training, or coaching personnel.
