About the Role
As a Consultant Archaeologist in Austin, Houston, or New Orleans you will identify, evaluate, and preserve cultural resources, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements while helping clients responsibly advance their projects. Your technical insights and field leadership strengthen ERM’s reputation for excellence in cultural resources management throughout the Gulf region. • Lead field crews through all phases of archaeological survey and testing. • Document artifacts, features, and sites using GPS‑enabled tablets and digital mapping tools. • Evaluate sites for National Register and State Register eligibility and assess project impacts. • Prepare and support technical report production, ensuring accuracy and on‑time delivery. • Conduct daily safety briefings, promote a strong safety culture, and follow ERM protocols. • Continuously improve field methods, logistics, and project workflows. • Perform online and in‑person background and records searches ahead of fieldwork. • Plan health and safety logistics, survey protocols, and equipment readiness for field operations. • Supervise pedestrian Phase I and II archaeological surveys and manage both physical and digital field records. • Maintain accurate daily field logs and assist project teams in meeting deliverable deadlines.

What You Bring
Are you an experienced archaeologist ready to take on projects that shape how communities understand, protect, and manage their cultural heritage? This role offers growth, leadership, and a meaningful contribution to both field work and a global sustainability consultancy. • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field (or equivalent experience) with 3–4 years of professional archaeological experience. • Demonstrated experience in survey, inventory, testing, data recovery, and technical report writing. • Proficiency with GPS, tablets, digital mapping tools, and Microsoft Office Suite. • Knowledge of Gulf‑region archaeology, artifacts, and survey standards. • Ability to travel up to 70%, walk up to 10 miles per day, lift/carry 50 lbs, and work weekends. • Valid driver’s license and willingness to operate a company vehicle. • Preferred: graduate degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related discipline; Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) certification; ability to be listed on federal and state permits.
