About the Role

The Substation Designer will perform a range of CAD design duties, including detailed high‑voltage substation (Air & GIS) physical design packages such as single‑line diagrams, general arrangements, elevations, calculations, cable and bus selections, ground grids, lighting, lightning protection, control building layouts, voltage drop analysis, conduit fill and bill of materials. The role also encompasses protection and control design packages (P&C single‑line, three‑line, schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts). Collaboration with internal and external engineers, designers, drafters and project managers is required to own projects and exceed client expectations. • Perform detailed high‑voltage substation physical design (single‑line diagrams, general arrangements, elevations, cable/bus selection, ground grid, lighting, control building layouts, voltage drop and conduit fill calculations, Bill of Materials). • Develop protection and control design packages including P&C single‑line, three‑line, schematics, wiring diagrams and panel layouts. • Collaborate with electrical engineers, designers, drafters and project managers to own project delivery and exceed client expectations.

What You Bring

Candidates must hold at least a diploma or bachelor’s degree in drafting or electrical design and have three or more years of experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D or AutoCAD Map 3D in power delivery, renewable energy or power generation. Strong CAD skills, knowledge of industry drafting standards, and the ability to work in the United States or Canada are required. Desired abilities include 3‑D modeling, experience with PVcase or PVCAD, familiarity with utility‑scale wind/solar MV systems, battery storage, relevant codes (ANSI/IEEE, NESC, NEC, CSA) and manufacturer products. • Minimum diploma or bachelor’s degree in drafting/electrical design with 3+ years of AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D or AutoCAD Map 3D experience in power delivery or renewable energy. • Proficient in CAD layering, blocks, XREFs, coordinate systems, annotations and dimensioning according to industry standards. • Authorized to work full‑time in the United States or Canada and able to manage multiple projects independently. • Preferred: 3‑D modeling, PVcase/PVCAD, utility‑scale wind/solar MV systems, battery storage knowledge, familiarity with ANSI/IEEE, NESC, NEC, CSA codes, and manufacturer equipment (transformers, circuit breakers, AIS/GIS switchgear, inverters).
