About the Role
The Trade Compliance Manager will ensure full compliance with UK/EU and global trade regulations while enabling efficient international trade across the business. Responsibilities include setting import/export instruction restrictions, reviewing and approving customs declarations, managing AEO and IPR requirements, overseeing CBAM from both exporter and importer perspectives, and leading duty‑optimisation initiatives. The role serves as the primary liaison with HMRC, the Department for Business and Trade, and industry bodies, and works closely with Sales, Legal, Finance, Operations, and Corporate Compliance to reduce risk, protect margins, and streamline processes. • Lead HMRC interactions, including audits, queries, and voluntary disclosures. • Build and maintain bills of discharge and internal audit trails. • Draft sales T&Cs clauses with Legal and issue compliance letters to customers and suppliers. • Deliver duty‑saving initiatives such as preference utilisation, tariff suspensions, and classification optimisation. • Represent the business with DBT/TRA and industry associations. • Influence and negotiate with regulators, customers, and internal stakeholders. • Maintain a proactive improvement mindset, reducing complexity and “red tape”. • Remain resilient under pressure, calmly resolving issues to root cause. • Collaborate effectively, building trust across Finance, Operations, Sales, Legal, and Corporate Compliance. • Stay customer‑focused while ensuring regulatory compliance. • Travel within the UK and internationally for regulatory/industry meetings and audits as needed. • Safeguard our Future: protect and improve health and safety of employees, communities, and the environment. • Earn Customer Loyalty: build partnerships through best‑in‑class products and service. • Create Value: generate and grow value for stakeholders.

What You Bring
• Deep understanding of customs fundamentals: classification, valuation, origin/preference, licensing/controls, special procedures. • Working knowledge of AEO standards, recordkeeping, and internal control frameworks. • Awareness of CBAM methodology and data requirements from importer and exporter perspectives. • Awareness of global sanctions regimes and screening best practices. • 2-3 years trade compliance experience. • Advanced analytical capability with strong attention to detail. • Clear written and verbal communication; translate regulations for non‑specialists. • Project management skills: plan, manage dependencies, assess risks, track milestones and benefits. • Systems and data savvy: Excel lookups, pivot tables, data validation, and reporting from ERP/TMS. • Demonstrate integrity, sound judgment, and confidentiality in handling sensitive data.
