About the Role

The role provides management and direction for a single engineering discipline or a major section within a larger discipline. In some cases the position may cover a large program exceeding $250 million in total installed cost, acting as manager of all engineering disciplines. Key duties involve overseeing engineering staffing, ensuring quality and progress of projects, collaborating with project managers to address issues, establishing standards and procedures, and driving continuous improvement across the discipline. The position reports to the Engineering Department Manager and Project Director, and supervises engineers, designers, CAD drafters, and support personnel. It interacts with internal teams across all engineering disciplines and other departments, as well as external suppliers, clients, and government agencies. • Review and approve discipline staffing budget estimates and assignment schedules. • Maintain appropriate staffing levels, including temporary personnel. • Manage engineering and design efforts for all disciplines on large programs (> $250M). • Coordinate discipline staffing requirements and monitor quality and progress. • Collaborate with Project Managers to resolve staffing, quality, schedule, or productivity issues. • Establish standards, procedures manuals, and recommend department improvements. • Recruit, interview, evaluate, hire, develop, and manage performance of engineering staff. • Provide orientation on company policies and support pre‑contract business development. • Ensure discipline performance stays within authorized overhead budgets. • Participate in and promote the Quality Improvement Program and lead discipline committees.

What You Bring

Candidates should possess a strong engineering education and extensive experience, including leadership responsibilities, with professional licensure preferred. The role demands proven supervisory and managerial abilities, excellent written and oral communication, and thorough knowledge of industry practices, regulations, and current engineering software. No security clearance is required. • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field. • Minimum 15 years of relevant experience with supervisory/managerial duties. • Professional Engineer (PE) registration and active society membership (may be required). • Strong written and oral communication skills and knowledge of industry practices and regulations. • Proficiency with current engineering software and technology.
