About the Role
Electrical Technologist interns will support the team leader in substation switching, maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, construction, installation, and commissioning of equipment, as well as assist with testing and responding to equipment‑failure calls. Wireless System Technologist interns will work under the supervision of senior technologists to design, install, commission, inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot communications equipment such as RF carriers, IP network radios, fiber optics, and cable systems, and will help maintain radio site support infrastructure. • Support substation switching, maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, construction, installation, and commissioning of equipment. • Conduct commission testing and troubleshoot distribution equipment. • Respond to trouble calls for equipment failures and alarms in transmission facilities. • Design, install, commission, inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot communications equipment (RF carriers, IP network radios, fiber optics, cable systems) under senior guidance. • Maintain radio site support systems, including buildings, HVAC, tower structures, lighting, and grounds.

The program is open to students who have completed at least one year in an Electrical Technologist or Wireless System (Communications) Technologist program and will run from May 4 to August 28, 2026 across ATCO Electric service areas in Alberta, with possible relocation assistance for successful candidates. Candidates must be enrolled in a recognized Canadian Electrical or Wireless System Technologist program, possess strong computer skills with Microsoft Office, communicate clearly using technical terminology, and hold a valid Class 5 driver’s licence. • Enrolled in an Electrical or Wireless System Technologist program at a recognized Canadian institution. • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and possess strong computer skills. • Communicate clearly in writing and verbally using appropriate technical terminology. • Hold a valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
