About the Role
The position requires comprehensive research, design, concept development, installation, operation, and maintenance of automatic temperature control, air distribution, hydronic, and plumbing systems. Responsibilities include preparing reports, documentation, and decisions related to installation, materials, construction, and operational specifications. Coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub‑consultants, and clients is essential for developing construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, and safety and phasing plans. The Lead Mechanical Engineer will manage mechanical design and construction from project inception through completion, incorporating advanced technologies, monitoring devices, and modeling techniques to deliver future‑ready solutions. They will oversee cross‑functional teams, monitor budgets, hours, expenses, and ensure compliance with codes, ordinances, and regulatory requirements. The role also involves preparing data visualizations, technical reports, presentations, and health and safety plans, as well as interacting with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients. • Provide high‑level technical assistance for multi‑site mechanical system design, due diligence, testing, and inspection. • Research, design, develop, install, operate, and maintain temperature control, air distribution, hydronic, and plumbing systems. • Collect and analyze site data, surveys, blueprints, and technical drawings for project development. • Apply mechanical engineering techniques to improve projects across concept, design, procurement, construction, and operation phases. • Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with codes, standards, and permits. • Develop construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, safety, and phasing plans, coordinating with stakeholders. • Manage mechanical design and construction from inception to completion, including rehabilitation and new builds. • Incorporate advanced technologies, monitoring devices, and modeling techniques for future‑ready solutions. • Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on temperature control, air distribution, hydronic, and plumbing systems. • Oversee cross‑functional teams, monitor budgets, hours, expenses, and ensure compliance documentation. • Review and approve installation design plans for code compliance. • Prepare data visualizations, technical reports, and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations. • Analyze field investigation data and develop action plans for risk mitigation. • Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs). • Interact professionally with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients. • Collaborate on federally, state, and locally funded projects and business development opportunities. • Stay current with mechanical engineering techniques and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.

What You Bring
Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, 7‑10 years of relevant experience, and a professional engineer license. Candidates must be proficient in mechanical engineering principles, building and infrastructure design, relevant codes and regulations, technical calculations, inspections, and software such as AutoCAD. Strong interpersonal, communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently and guide junior staff while maintaining QA/QC standards. • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, 7‑10 years experience, and a professional engineer license. • Demonstrate proficiency in engineering principles, building design, relevant codes, technical calculations, inspections, and AutoCAD. • Exhibit strong communication, leadership, and problem‑solving abilities, and work independently while guiding junior staff.
