Job Highlights
About the Role
Boilermakers will construct iron and steel structures to specifications, focusing on the construction of Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) units and other miscellaneous structures for new construction projects. Key responsibilities include reading blueprints and specifications to determine material quantities and locations, identifying necessary tools and safety precautions, fabricating equipment, hoisting components using rigging or cranes, verifying alignment of structural members, connecting columns, beams, and girders with bolts, positioning members for riveting or bolting, and performing cutting, bending, and welding operations. • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and IFC drawings to plan work. • Identify required tools and safety precautions for each task. • Fabricate, cut, bend, and weld steel components according to instructions. • Hoist and rig equipment using cranes, bull rigs, and safe rigging practices. • Align and position structural steel members using plumb bobs, lasers, and levels. • Bolt, rivet, and secure columns, beams, and girders per drawings. • Perform rigging, knot tying, and operate specialty tools (torque wrenches, skidmore, mag drills). • Apply bolting procedures, torque, and tension calculations. • Lead steel erection, grid layout, and rigging operations. • Follow craft specifications, cut sheets, ECNs, and issue RFIs when necessary. • Conduct basic equipment maintenance and inspections.

What You Bring
Candidates must have at least four years of experience as a Boilermaker Helper, Boilermaker Ironworker, or a comparable role such as a structural fitter with HRSG experience, including work on gas‑fired combined‑cycle power unit HRSGs. They must meet all knowledge, skill, and ability requirements, be able to work at heights exceeding 300 ft, possess the necessary tools and reliable transportation, and pass pre‑employment physicals, drug screening, and motor vehicle record checks. Required qualifications encompass leadership in steel erection, the ability to perform all craft duties, proficiency in reading IFC drawings and creating hang lists, interpreting ECNs and hold notes, understanding craft specifications and cut sheets, safe rigging practices, proper bolting procedures (torque versus tension), use of specialty tools such as torque wrenches and skidmore devices, basic welding and cutting knowledge, equipment operation (JLG man baskets, cranes), routine maintenance and safety inspections, and strong math skills for measurements and calculations. Preferred qualifications include current or former employment with Zachry, NCCER certification for Industrial Journeyman Carpenter, and formal or technical education. Physical demands involve extensive standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting up to 50 lb, working at heights, climbing ladders and stairways, operating from platforms and man lifts, and adhering to fall protection requirements while wearing appropriate PPE such as hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators, high‑visibility vests, gloves, and leather work boots. • Utilize math skills for measurements and material calculations. • Meet physical demands: lift up to 50 lb, work at heights >300 ft, wear required PPE. • Possess 4+ years Boilermaker/ironworker experience, including HRSG on gas‑fired combined‑cycle units. • Maintain reliable transportation and required tools; pass pre‑employment physical, drug screen, and MVR.
