About the Role
The internship involves assisting assigned department(s) and/or project(s) by performing basic engineering tasks that reflect elements of a standard post‑secondary engineering curriculum. HNTB is seeking Intern Engineers interested in Transportation for Summer 2026 in its Boston, Massachusetts office, within the Roadway and Traffic departments. Roadway interns will contribute to the design and development of highway and roadway projects, ranging from small intersection and multimodal corridor improvements to large interchanges, bridge reconstruction, and design‑build projects. They will work closely with experienced design engineers and be involved in all phases of the design process, from concept development to final construction plans. Traffic interns will play a vital role in analyzing, designing, and optimizing transportation systems. Working with mid‑ and senior traffic engineers and multidisciplinary teams, they will develop innovative solutions that enhance traffic flow, promote safety, and improve overall network performance. • Assist engineer teams with research, development, design, and preparation of engineering drawings and documents. • Perform basic engineering calculations and organize information for use in drawings or other documents. • Follow direction from peers and supervisors and learn introductory shop drawing and submittal procedures.
