About the Role

• Lead design activities for the School Upgrade Program and critical repair projects. • Serve as the lead design professional, providing quality reviews and coordinating with the Division of State Architects. • Manage the district’s design process to meet functional, budgetary, environmental, and legal requirements. • Oversee projects from concept to final review and handoff, coordinating architects, consultants, and district personnel. • Ensure building designs comply with LAUSD standards and educational requirements. • Select and assign qualified architectural firms based on performance criteria. • Direct architects on project goals, standards, site constraints, schedule, and budget. • Implement an efficient design review process to maximize value, sustainability, and functional needs. • Document all project steps to satisfy legal and compliance requirements. • Review design changes to maintain budget alignment. • Participate in community outreach to promote project understanding and acceptance. • Coordinate with district support units such as Environmental Health and Safety, Maintenance, and Asbestos Technical Unit. • Develop and deliver continuing‑education seminars and workshops for staff.

What You Bring

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in architecture or engineering, with a master’s degree preferred, and possess at least fifteen years of professional experience in facilities design and capital project management. Five of those years must involve the design, planning, and construction of K‑12 schools, and a California architect or professional engineer license is desirable. • Hold a bachelor’s degree in architecture or engineering (master’s preferred). • Possess at least 15 years of facilities design and capital project management experience, including 5 years with K‑12 schools. • Preferred: California Architect registration or Professional Engineer license.
