About the Role

The Sorter is responsible for safely and efficiently processing incoming recyclable materials so that outbound commodities meet the quality standards required by brokers or mills. The role involves sorting, depositing, and inspecting waste streams while adhering to strict safety protocols. Sorters separate recoverable items such as aluminum, plastic, glass, and paper from incoming waste and place them into the appropriate chutes. They assist teammates with heavy or bulky loads, stop the conveyor belt during emergencies, and inspect loads for non‑acceptable waste, removing it as needed. Effective communication with equipment operators ensures special or hazardous loads receive proper attention, and additional duties are performed as assigned. • Sort and segregate recoverable materials such as aluminum, plastic, glass, and paper from incoming waste. • Deposit sorted materials safely and efficiently into the appropriate chutes. • Assist fellow sorters with heavy or bulky items when needed. • Stop the conveyor belt and follow safety protocols in emergency situations. • Inspect incoming loads for unacceptable waste and remove unsuitable items. • Communicate with equipment operators about special or hazardous loads.
