About the Role
In the role, you will provide quality commercial and legal departures at tender to protect the company’s interests in line with policies, procedures and business practices. You will work closely with project delivery teams and SMEs to identify commercial risk and draft suitable qualifications, close commercial negotiations with clients and manage contract execution. You will also review subcontractor quotes, conduct gap analysis and prepare subcontract documents aligned with head contract conditions. You will offer guidance and practical support for payment claims, variations, extensions of time, contract correspondence and administration, and assist in dispute matters together with the Commercial Director and legal advisors. Downer plans, creates and sustains integrated services across Australia and New Zealand, delivering design, construction and maintenance of assets, infrastructure and facilities. The Transport & Infrastructure business manages road networks and provides civil and commercial construction, leveraging trans‑Tasman capabilities to deliver technical solutions for customers and communities. • Deliver commercial and contractual outcomes across multiple projects in Victoria, Queensland and Tasmania. • Provide commercial and legal input at tender stage to safeguard company interests. • Identify commercial risks with project teams and draft appropriate qualifications. • Lead client negotiations and oversee contract execution. • Review subcontractor quotes, perform gap analysis, and prepare subcontract documents using standard templates. • Support payment claims, variations, extensions of time, contract correspondence and administration. • Assist in dispute resolution alongside the Commercial Director and legal advisors. • Apply operational knowledge to give practical advice and solutions to project teams. • Manage the full contract lifecycle autonomously. • Negotiate and influence stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes. • Analyse financial information and produce strong financial reports. • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external clients and stakeholders.

What You Bring
We are searching for an adaptive and approachable Contracts Manager based out of either Melbourne or Brisbane. This is a highly visible role overseeing multiple concurrent projects across Victoria, Queensland and Tasmania. We are seeking a person who can deliver sound commercial and contractual outcomes as a trusted team member, willing to get involved in all aspects of tender and project delivery where there is opportunity for influencing long term growth and development. The ideal candidate has formal qualifications in Contract/Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying or Law, or at least 10 + years’ experience as a Contracts Manager or Senior Contracts Administrator. You should have experience in an operational environment, exposure to commercial and legal issues, autonomous contract lifecycle management, strong negotiation and influencing skills, and solid financial reporting and analysis abilities. • Hold qualifications in Contract/Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying or Law, or 10+ years’ Contracts Management experience.
