The Nova Scotia Power Line Inspector Program is seeking a Utilityworker II (Shift) for a 12‑month temporary, full‑time assignment at Lakeside, NS. The role pays $29.09 per hour under the IBEW Collective Agreement (Local 1928) and was posted under reference 2026‑5079 with a closing date of 7 February 2026. The successful candidate will travel throughout the province, may be temporarily assigned to other locations, and must be able to respond to after‑hour emergencies. Required training includes in‑house safety, environmental, vehicle operation and other job‑specific courses, and the employee is expected to actively participate in on‑the‑job training and risk‑assessment processes. Personal and coworker safety, compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and adherence to the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy are essential. Applicants must have at least a Grade XII education (or equivalent) with adequate reading and writing skills, be capable of manual labour, and be familiar with common hand and power tools. A valid Nova Scotia driver’s licence with minimum two years’ experience, and a driver’s abstract satisfactory to NSPI are required; a certificate for off‑highway vehicles and towing experience are assets. Self‑motivation, strong teamwork, environmental awareness and any background in communications, forestry or utilities are considered valuable. The position involves regular lifting of 17‑66 lb, carrying up to 66 lb, frequent walking, and a variety of movements such as bending, stooping, squatting, and reaching overhead. Workers must be able to use grip strength, push and pull loads of 20‑50 lb, and operate in warm temperatures and confined spaces while discriminating colours. • Travel province‑wide and support other locations as needed. • Complete in‑house safety, environmental, vehicle operation and job‑specific training. • Pass a confidential pre‑employment alcohol and drug test per Emera policy. • Hold at least a Grade XII education (or equivalent) with strong reading and writing abilities. • Possess a valid Nova Scotia driver’s licence with ≥2 years driving experience and a satisfactory driver’s abstract. • Obtain off‑highway vehicle and trailer‑towing certification (preferred). • Demonstrate self‑motivation, teamwork and minimal supervision. • Show strong environmental awareness; EMS knowledge is an asset. • Ability to lift 17‑66 lb, carry 25‑66 lb, and push/pull 20‑50 lb regularly. • Utilize various grip strengths and perform frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, squatting and twisting motions. • Work in warm temperatures, confined spaces, and discriminate colours.
