Delivery Engineer- Site Inspector

About the Role

You will act as the primary liaison between customers, stakeholders, and business partners regarding R&M contracts, helping to mitigate reputational and financial risks for Southern Water. Additional training will be provided to support you in this role. The position involves managing contractor performance through Southern Water’s reporting mechanisms such as Ellipse, Waterworx, and GEOMAPS, and serving as the county focal point for all R&M‑related issues. You will oversee R&M defects, verify and challenge work orders, process defect paperwork, and maintain an auditable trail of burst main activities in the database tracker. • Liaise with customers, stakeholders and business partners on R&M contracts. • Manage contractor performance using reporting tools (Ellipse, Waterworx, GEOMAPS). • Serve as county focal point for R&M issues across all functions. • Oversee R&M defects, verify and challenge work orders and related paperwork. • Track burst main activities and maintain an auditable database record. • Issue Early Warning Notices for high‑cost items such as traffic management and large excavations. • Provide advice on R&M specifications and act as point of contact for each area. • Ensure contractors meet performance standards and regulatory compliance. • Participate in a 24/7 incident support culture to ensure rapid service restoration.

What You Bring

Early Warning Notices will be issued for high‑cost inclusions such as traffic management and large excavations, and you will provide advice on R&M specifications while acting as the point of contact for each area. A full UK driving licence is mandatory for this role. The ideal candidate brings solid operational experience in water operations, street works qualifications, and strong IT literacy, particularly with Microsoft applications. Excellent communication skills, the ability to attend core meetings, and leadership capability to manage challenging situations with external bodies and internal teams are also essential. A 24/7 incident support culture ensures rapid resolution of service disruptions, with all employees understanding the importance of out‑of‑hours support to maintain water delivery for customers. • Full UK driving licence required. • Operational experience in water operations (advantageous). • Street works qualifications/licence. • Proficiency with IT systems, especially Microsoft Office suite. • Strong communication and liaison abilities. • Leadership capability to manage difficult situations with external and internal parties.
