About the Role
• Prepare scopes, schedules, and budgets for substation projects and ensure they are met. • Design physical substation elements such as yard layouts, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, and raceways. • Develop protection and control designs, including panel arrangements, one‑line diagrams, schematics, and wiring. • Perform calculations and generate reports for grounding, lightning protection, and AC/DC load studies. • Write equipment specifications for procurement and coordinate factory acceptance testing. • Collaborate with civil/structural, networks, and transmission line teams to integrate design activities. • Communicate project status and coordinate tasks with managers, clients, and stakeholders. • Mentor, train, and supervise less‑experienced engineers and designers as needed.

What You Bring
The position is open in many preferred locations across the United States, including Austin, Ann Arbor, Boise, Charlotte, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Seattle, Sacramento/Folsom and others. • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (or related engineering field) and a Professional Engineer (PE) license. • Possess at least four years of substation design experience, including one‑line diagrams, grounding, conduit, and control schematics. • Demonstrate strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and electrical design software such as PLS‑CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, or Revit. • Be willing to travel when required and support HDR’s employee‑owned, inclusive culture.
