About the Role

Key responsibilities include understanding project requirements, scope, and deliverables, developing trusted relationships with engineers, and preparing detailed and layout drawings for complex or original designs. The designer will also establish quality‑control processes, incorporate mark‑ups, and ensure outputs meet professional standards while interfacing with CAD personnel, subconsultants, and project engineers. Additional duties involve guiding other CAD staff, providing continuous‑improvement input, and potentially managing a CAD team. • Create 3D CAD models and construction plan sets for transportation projects. • Interpret project requirements, scope, and deliverables to produce accurate designs. • Prepare detailed and layout drawings for complex or original designs. • Implement quality‑control processes and incorporate mark‑ups into deliverables. • Collaborate with CAD personnel, subconsultants, and project engineers to support production. • Provide guidance and mentorship to other CAD staff and contribute continuous‑improvement ideas. • May supervise and manage CAD team members. • Provide flexible hybrid work schedule with up to 40% remote and alternate Fridays off.

Freese and Nichols is searching for an experienced Transportation CAD Designer for its Fort Worth, Dallas, or Frisco, Texas offices. The role supports transportation engineers by creating 3D CAD models and producing plan sets for construction projects. Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, at least ten years of engineering design experience, and strong proficiency in MicroStation. Preference is given to those with in‑depth knowledge of Open Roads Designer, Geopak, or InRoads and an associate degree in CAD. The role requires the ability to learn quickly, adapt, and solve problems to deliver accurate, high‑quality work. • Require 10+ years of engineering design experience and strong MicroStation skills; preferred knowledge of Open Roads Designer, Geopak, or InRoads. • Must hold a high school diploma (associate degree in CAD preferred) and demonstrate problem‑solving abilities.
