About the Role

As a Project Manager – Rail Systems, you will oversee the delivery of rail systems contracts, guiding the procurement process, preparing for contract award, and managing Phase One and 2a works. The role involves integrating innovative railway technology into the UK network and contributing to this transformational project as it moves from final procurement stages to contract execution. • Provide project management support to Rail Systems Senior Project Managers or Heads of Delivery for assigned projects. • Support the successful delivery of Railway Systems objectives and outcomes. • Interface with relevant Railway Systems stakeholders as required for the project. • Monitor changes from Construction/Delivery teams, including scope and cost impacts, and escalate issues to senior leadership. • Report on project deliverables to senior managers and broader programme forums on a routine and ad‑hoc basis. • Assist senior managers in developing, maintaining and analysing project plans to identify and mitigate delivery risks. • Help identify and implement mitigating actions for potential milestone slippages, escalating issues as needed. • Participate in the integrated HS2 team, coordinating matrixed members, agency staff and consultants to meet schedule requirements. • Manage package contractors to ensure delivery on time, within budget, to scope and quality standards. • Ensure project integration with related HS2 and Network Rail initiatives. • Undertake duties of the Project Manager under an NEC3 contract. • Promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all work, complying with organisational EDI policies. • Develop, plan and integrate projects to optimise target costs and benefits. • Identify problems, evaluate options and implement solutions across multiple workstreams and stakeholder demands. • Gather and synthesise information to make logical, reasoned decisions. • Analyse inputs, assess data, define strategies and document supporting rationales. • Influence and negotiate with internal functions and external supply chain partners. • Manage high‑value, complex projects. • Oversee the full project lifecycle from pre‑contract award through design, installation, testing and commissioning. • Work across functions and disciplines to achieve project objectives. • Manage people directly and within a matrix environment. • Deliver project outcomes through external contractors or suppliers.

What You Bring

• Possess project management knowledge aligned with APM Project Manager standards. • Understand risk identification, management and mitigation. • Understand project schedule management, dependencies and risk assessment. • Comprehend complexities of delivering projects with multiple interfaces. • Hold a degree‑level qualification or equivalent NVQ in project management, engineering, commercial management or related experience. • Knowledge of railway systems and/or telecommunications is advantageous.

Benefits

The role is based in Birmingham with a base salary ranging from £54,878 to £64,562 per annum, dependent on skills and experience. In addition, a flexible benefits fund of 20% of salary is provided, which is fully pensionable and complemented by a range of competitive benefits outlined on the company's website.
