About the Role
Key business development duties include assessing the regional market, shaping technical strategies, pursuing new clients and contracts, and collaborating across transportation, resources, water, and federal sectors. The lead will also serve as client manager for major accounts, represent HDR at industry events, and support the Strategic Pursuits program. Staff development responsibilities involve mentoring wastewater professionals, assigning projects to build skills, recruiting talent, and coordinating staffing plans with regional leaders. The leader will also drive technical excellence, support the Drive to Zero initiative, and identify investments in technology and people. In project delivery, the lead will assist business group leadership with client management, QA/QC oversight, risk management, and work‑sharing to meet goals. They will engage in the PARR process, capture lessons learned, and may take on Project Management or Principal‑in‑Charge assignments. • Lead growth and development of the NY/NJ wastewater market, including treatment, effluent, pump stations, pipelines, and biosolids. • Develop and execute business development strategies to acquire new clients and secure contracts. • Serve as client manager for key accounts, handling relationship development and issue resolution. • Collaborate with cross‑sector teams (Transportation, Resources, Water, Federal) and regional marketing managers. • Represent HDR at professional organizations, conferences, and client development workshops. • Mentor and assign staff to enhance technical skills and career pathways within the wastewater sector. • Recruit and retain talent, coordinating staffing plans with regional and area leadership. • Support project delivery through client management, QA/QC oversight, risk assessment, and work‑sharing. • Participate in the PARR process, promote quality assurance, and disseminate lessons learned. • Identify and recommend investments in technology and resources to maintain industry leadership.

What You Bring
Preferred qualifications include a BS in engineering, PE registration in NY and/or NJ, and more than ten years of wastewater planning, design, and construction experience with strong client relationships. Required qualifications mirror these expectations, adding proven strategic marketing program development, staff development experience, and active participation in industry associations. • Maintain a professional engineering license in New York and/or New Jersey. • Possess 10+ years of experience in wastewater planning, design, and construction with strong client relationships. • Demonstrate experience in strategic marketing, technical differentiation, and client pursuit management. • Active involvement in industry associations and a visible market sector profile.
