About the Role

In this position you will supervise trades maintenance teams responsible for fire‑systems estate maintenance, carry out minor fire‑systems maintenance and coordinate emergency response activities, and conduct condition assessments with asset data validation for maintenance or minor works. What You Bring

Downer is celebrating a major milestone after being awarded the Property and Asset Services contract to deliver base and estate services across NSW/ACT and Queensland, marking an important achievement in our 80‑plus‑year partnership with the Australian Defence Force. We are now inviting applications for a permanent Leading Hand – Estate Upkeep Fire position at Lavarack Barracks. The role begins in February 2026 and is open to candidates from any background, whether they bring defence experience, industry knowledge, or transferable skills. The ideal candidate holds a relevant trade certification (such as electrical, plumbing or carpentry) together with fire‑safety training, and possesses a current open driver’s licence and a QBCC Fire Protection licence. Additional credentials such as an Emergency Response Leadership Certification are desirable, as is experience in fire‑systems maintenance and emergency response coordination.
