About the Role
Interns will support electrical scopes on projects such as Power, Solar, Energy Storage, or Data Centers, help determine optimal collection system layouts, manage shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs, and assist with purchase orders and subcontractor agreements. They will also collaborate in pre‑construction meetings, use advanced technology and software, support bid package preparation, consult with suppliers, and handle material procurement. • Assist with electrical scope on Power, Solar, Energy Storage, or Data Center projects. • Determine optimal layout of collection systems considering project constraints. • Prepare and manage shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs. • Support purchase orders and subcontractor agreements. • Collaborate in pre‑construction and pre‑installation meetings. • Utilize industry‑leading technology and software for construction processes. • Help prepare and evaluate bid packages. • Consult with subcontractors and material suppliers. • Manage material procurement.

Electrical Engineering Intern • Summer 2026. Mortenson seeks dynamic, motivated individuals who can collaborate with staff at all levels in a constantly changing environment, demonstrating flexibility, inventiveness, proactivity, and professionalism. The internship program expands skill sets across a variety of focus areas. The internship lasts a minimum of twelve weeks during the summer of 2026 (May – August) and may be offered year‑round. Assignment to a specific team will be based on the organization’s overall needs. Candidates must be pursuing a four‑year undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, be willing to relocate, have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license, and be comfortable working in environments with dirt, heat, noise, dust, and a trailer office. Preferred applicants have prior related internship experience, a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0, are enrolled as freshmen, sophomores, or juniors, are detail‑oriented and organized, possess a basic understanding of construction law and business practices, and demonstrate strong collaboration, communication, problem‑solving, initiative, and a professional attitude with solid customer service skills. • Pursuing a four‑year undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering. • Willingness to relocate and have reliable transportation. • Valid driver’s license. • Comfortable working in dirt, heat, noise, dust, and trailer office environments. • Prior related internship experience. • Minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0. • Enrolled as undergraduate freshman, sophomore, or junior. • Detail‑oriented, organized, and capable of handling multiple tasks. • Basic understanding of construction law and business practices. • Strong collaboration, communication, problem‑solving, and initiative skills. • Positive professional attitude and solid customer service skills. • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Benefits
The program offers placement in one of several specialized groups, including Data Center, Structured Cabling & EV/Microgrid, Energy Storage, Engineering Services, Power Distribution, Solar & Emerging Renewables, and Wind Energy. The hourly wage starts at $18, with higher rates for sophomores and above.
