About the Role

The operator will perform daily pre‑start, post‑start and safety inspections, report any deficiencies, and conduct routine maintenance per the equipment manual. Responsibilities include operating excavators, bulldozers and loaders safely, maintaining situational awareness, loading and unloading material, handling TBW concrete barriers, and changing attachments such as forks, booms or hydraulic hammers. The role also requires verifying utility locations, obtaining logs, coordinating ground‑man assistance, maintaining grade control, and communicating equipment status to supervisors and the fleet department. • Perform pre‑start, post‑start, and daily safety inspections; report deficiencies. • Conduct routine maintenance and schedule repairs per equipment manuals. • Operate excavators, bulldozers, and loaders safely while maintaining situational awareness. • Load, unload, and transport material; handle TBW concrete barriers efficiently. • Change equipment attachments such as forks, booms, and hydraulic hammers as needed. • Verify utility locations, obtain logs, and coordinate ground‑man assistance before excavation. • Maintain grade control, spread and balance material, and execute cut‑and‑fill tasks per survey stakes. • Communicate equipment status and issues to supervisors and the fleet department. • Secure equipment with pins, remove keys during washing or maintenance, and ensure safe shutdown. • Assist with non‑operational duties and support team activities across shifts.

MasTec Civil is hiring experienced excavator, dozer, and loader heavy equipment operators for its Jacksonville, FL location. The role is a non‑FSLA exempt skilled craft position on heavy construction projects, requiring the operation of equipment such as backhoes, excavators, bulldozers and loaders. Operators must be physically fit and adhere to Safety Sensitive Position requirements. Candidates should have 5–9+ years of construction experience operating excavators or bulldozers on roads, highways or bridges, and possess the required certifications or documentation that meet industry and governmental standards. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, and knowledge of equipment capacities, laser grading and utility location procedures is advantageous. • 5–9+ years experience operating excavators or bulldozers on road, highway, or bridge projects. • Valid certifications or documentation meeting industry and governmental standards. • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; knowledge of equipment capacities and laser grading advantageous.
